SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ON A SQUEAKING NOISE NEAR THE LOWER STEERING WHEEL AREA WHICH MAY BE HEARD WHEN ROTATING THE STEERING WHEEL. THE NOISE MAY BE MORE PREVALENT AT LOW TEMPERATURES.
AN INTERFERENCE CONDITION MAY EXIST BETWEEN THE LOWER NYLON BUSHING LINER AND THE STEERING COLUMN SHAFT (SEE ILLUSTRATION). THIS COULD BE A RESULT OF THE STEERING SHAFT BEING OFF CENTER SLIGHTLY.
1.) REMOVE LEFT HAND SOUND INSULATOR.
2.) LOOSEN TWO UPPER AND TWO LOWER STEERING COLUMN BOLTS (SEE ILLUSTRATION).
3.) ADJUST STEERING SHAFT BY PUSHING UP (AS SHOWN BY ARROW IN ILLUSTRATION) APPROXIMATELY 1/8" SO THAT THE STEERING SHAFT IS IN THE CENTER OF THE LOWER BUSHING.
4.) IT IS ESSENTIAL TO MAINTAIN THE CENTER POSITION BY CAREFULLY TIGHTENING THE TWO LOWER BOLTS. TIGHTEN THE BOLTS INCREMENTALLY TO THE FINAL TORQUE TO MAINTAIN THE CENTER POSITION OF THE STEERING SHAFT THEN TIGHTEN THE TWO UPPER BOLTS.
5.) TIGHTEN STEERING COLUMN UPPER AND LOWER BOLTS TO 27 N.M (20 LBS. FT.).
