SMU - SECTION 9J-74 REVISED REMOVE/INSTALL PROCEDURE

SUBJECT: SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE - SECTION 9J-74 - REVISED REMOVE/ INSTALL PROCEDURE FOR PASSENGER COMPARTMENT DISCRIMINATING SENSOR

MODELS: 1994 BUICK SKYLARK 1994 OLDSMOBILE ACHIEVA 1994 PONTIAC GRAND AM

THIS BULLETIN REPLACES THE REMOVE/INSTALL PROCEDURE FOR THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT DISCRIMINATING SENSOR LOCATED IN SECTION 9J-74 OF THE SERVICE MANUAL.

NOTE: SECTION 9J, FIGURE 4, ITEM 6 (PASSENGER COMPARTMENT DISCRIMINATING SENSOR) IS INCORRECT. PLEASE REFER TO FIGURE 12 IN SECTION 9J FOR CORRECT LOCATION.

PROCEDURE:

THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE SHOULD BE USED:

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT - ======================

- DISABLE THE SUPPLEMENTAL INFLATABLE RESTRAINT (SIR) SYSTEM, REFER TO "DISABLING THE SIR SYSTEM" IN SECTION 9J.

1. CONSOLE, REFER TO SECTION 8C.

2. LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT SEATS, REFER TO SECTION 10-10.

3. FLOOR CARPETING PARTIALLY REMOVED TO BEHIND THE FRONT SEATS, REFER TO SECTION 10-10.

4. REAR FLOOR DUCT OR OUTLET, REFER TO SECTION 1A.

5. CONNECTOR POSITION ASSURANCE (CPA) AND SENSOR LEAD ELECTRICAL CONNECTION (LOCATED NEAR DERM).

6. SENSOR MOUNTING FASTENERS.

7. REMOVE SENSOR LEAD WIRING AND SENSOR FROM THE VEHICLE.

INSTALL OR CONNECT - ====================

NOTICE: REFER TO "NOTICE" ON PAGE 9J-1.

1. SENSOR TO VEHICLE, ENSURE ARROW IS POINTING TOWARD THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE.

2. SENSOR MOUNTING FASTENERS - TIGHTEN - FASTENERS TO 23.5 N.M (17 LB. FT.)

3. ROUTE SENSOR LEAD WIRING.

4. SENSOR LEAD ELECTRICAL CONNECTION AND CPA (LOCATED NEAR DERM).

5. REAR FLOOR DUCT OR OUTLET, REFER TO SECTION 1A.

6. FLOOR CARPETING, REFER TO SECTION 10-10.

7. LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT SEATS, REFER TO SECTION 10-10.

8. CONSOLE, REFER TO SECTION 8C.

ENABLE THE SIR SYSTEM, REFER TO "ENABLING THE SIR SYSTEM" IN THIS SECTION.
