Water Pump Replacement 2.4L

Removal Procedure

Notice: When adding coolant, use DEX-COOL® coolant. If silicated coolant is added to the system, premature engine, heater core or radiator corrosion may result. In addition, the engine coolant will require change sooner-at 50 000 km (30,000 mi) or 24 months.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

    in General Information.
  2. Drain the coolant. Recover the coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling
  3. Disconnect the oxygen sensor (O2S) connector.
  4. Remove the upper exhaust manifold heat shield.
  5. Disconnect the heater hose quick connect from the heater outlet pipe.
  6. Raise the vehicle. Refer to General Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in General Information.

  10. Break loose the manifold to exhaust pipe bolts.

  11. Object Number: 25787 Size: SH
  12. Remove the radiator outlet pipe assembly to coolant pump cover (2) bolts (1).
  13. Notice: Do not rotate the flex coupling more than 4 degrees. Damage to the flex coupling may occur.

  14. Remove the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold. Pull down and back on the exhaust manifold pipe in order to disengage the pipe from the exhaust manifold.

  15. Object Number: 25789 Size: SH
  16. Remove the radiator outlet pipe (1) from the oil pan (2) and transaxle.
  17. • With a manual transaxle, remove the exhaust manifold brace.
    • Keep the lower radiator hose attached. Pull down on the radiator outlet pipe in order to disengage the pipe from the coolant pump. Leave the radiator outlet pipe hanging.
  18. Lower the vehicle.
  19. Remove the following parts in order:
  20. 15.1. The brake vacuum pipe from the cam housing
