Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the clutch actuator cylinder line.

  4. Object Number: 100701  Size: SH
  5. Remove the clutch master cylinder assembly from the clutch actuator cylinder.
  6. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission.

  7. Object Number: 100727  Size: SH
  8. Remove the clutch cover bolts one turn at a time, until spring pressure is relieved.

  9. Object Number: 100733  Size: SH
  10. Remove the clutch cover and the clutch disc.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 100733  Size: SH
  1. Align the Heavy Side of the flywheel assembly (stamped with an X), with the clutch cover Light Side (marked with paint).

  2. Object Number: 100752  Size: SH
  3. Install the J 29074-A in order to support the clutch cover to the flywheel assembly.

  4. Object Number: 100744  Size: SH
  5. Install the clutch cover to flywheel bolts.
  6. Tighten

    1. Follow the tightening sequence. Tighten the bolts to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the bolts to specifications. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Remove the J 29074-A .
  8. Lubricate the inside diameter of the bearing with GM P/N 12345777, or equivalent.
  9. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission.

  10. Object Number: 100701  Size: SH
  11. Install the clutch master cylinder assembly to the clutch actuator cylinder.

  12. Object Number: 100705  Size: SH
  13. Connect the clutch actuator cylinder line.
  14. Bleed the hydraulic system. Refer to Hydraulic Clutch Bleeding .
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
