Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  3. Object Number: 189001  Size: SH
  4. Remove the oil filter.
  5. Remove the gasket with the filter.

  6. Object Number: 189004  Size: SH
  7. Remove the oil filter adapter.

  8. Object Number: 189005  Size: SH
  9. Remove the oil filter bypass valve using a screwdriver or punch to pry the valve out.
  10. Clean the oil filter mounting surface.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 189005  Size: SH
  1. Install the oil filter bypass valve using a socket of the same diameter and a mallet to seat the valve.

  2. Object Number: 189004  Size: SH
  3. Install the oil filter adapter.

  4. Object Number: 189001  Size: SH
  5. Be sure the gasket is in place and install the filter.
  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8. Start the vehicle and inspect for leaks.
