The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Information about PPS system.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Service VME:

The Passenger Presence System (PPS) is intended to identify the presence of an adult, child or child safety seat in the right front seating area. Based on conversations with service managers and technicians, there may be some misunderstanding on the operation of the PPS system, and how the height, weight and occupant seating position affects the operation of the PPS system.

All GM Dealers (including Saturn Retailers) were sent a DVD on occupant safety systems during the fall of 2005. The DVD describes in non-technical terms the operation of the PPS system and the different types used in General Motors vehicles.

Please have your Sales and Service departments view this DVD and if needed, have your customers also review the information. The DVD course number is 22048.40V and it is also available on the technical training website at http://www.gmtraining.com.

To access this content on-line, from the GM Training homepage, go to: Service Know-How/TECHAssist > Emerging Issues > Searchable Streaming Video, then search for 22048.40V.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
