1989-92 CADILLAC ALLANTES EQUIPPED WITH 4.5L ENGINE (VIN 8 - RPO LQ6)
SOME OWNERS MAY EXPERIENCE A CONDITION IN WHICH ENGINE OIL "LEAKS" AROUND THE "JACK SCREW" LOCATION THREADS AFTER THE OIL PAN GASKET HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH A NEW COMPOSITE MATERIAL OIL PAN GASKET.
THIS LEAK IS CAUSED BY EXPOSURE OF THE THREAD SURFACES TO THE NEW GASKET SURFACE.
TO REPAIR THIS CONDITION:
1. ASSURE THE "JACK SCREW" THREADS ARE FREE OF ENGINE OIL AND GASKET RESIDUE.
2. APPLY LOCTITE(R) 242 TO THE THREADS OF TWO M8 X 1.25 BOLTS 5MM IN LENGTH, AND INSTALL IN THE JACK SCREW LOCATIONS. TORQUE BOLTS TO 2 N.M TO ENSURE A LIGHT FRICTION CONTACT WITH THE OIL PAN SURFACE. **IF YOU MUST CUT AND GRIND A BOLT TO THIS LENGTH, ENSURE THE BOLTS ARE DRESSED PROPERLY PRIOR TO INSTALLATION.**
3. ENSURE THE BOLT FLANGES FULLY CONTACT THE ENGINE OIL PAN SURFACE AND ALLOW 8-10 MINUTES OF CURING TIME FOR THE LOCTITE(R) COMPOUND. THESE SCREWS **MUST ACT AS PLUGS ONLY** AND SHOULD NOT CONTACT THE GASKET SURFACE OR EXCEED THE FLANGE SURFACE OF THE OIL PAN.
REFER TO SECTION 6A IN THE ALLANTE SERVICE INFORMATION MANUAL WHEN REPLACEMENT OF THE ENGINE OIL PAN GASKET AND/OR PAN BOLTS IS NECESSARY.
FOR VEHICLES REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY, USE: LABOR OPERATION: J1000 USE PUBLISHED LABOR OPERATION TIME.
