Some Allantes may experience a condition in which the outside rearview mirrors appear to be free to pivot with no fixed position. Allante -s are delivered to dealers with the outside mirror housings folded against the doors and require locking before they are delivered to the owner. In addition, some Allante owners have inadvertently unlocked their mirror housings and are uninformed about their operation. To correct this condition, dealer personnel and owners need to be informed about outside rearview mirror housing positioning.
To lock the outside rearview mirror housing in the fully extended position, push against the outer edge of the housing toward the front of the car with the palm of your hand until an audible "click" is heard. In the locked position, the inside face of the mirror head is flush with the mirror base (see Figure 1).
To unlock the outside rearview mirror, place your palm on the outer ed of the mirror housing and bump the housing toward the rear of the vehicle (see Figure 27.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
