Some 1987-1988 Allantes may experience a condition of a creaking or crunching noise from the rear floor pan while turning. This noise mav increase when the body flexes (e.g. turning into a driveway or going over a curb).
This condition may be caused the fuel tank flange contacting the strap mounting bracket and/or the mounting strap at the left (driver side) forward location.
To repair this condition use the following procedure:
1. Raise car to expose the fuel tank.
2. Inspect for the fuel tank flange contacting the strap mounting bracket and/or mounting strap at the left forward location, refer to Figure 1.
3. Bend the fuel tank flange downward behind the mounting bracket using channel-lock pliers or equivalent to eliminate the contact. When bending the flange downward, there should still be clearance between the mounting strap and the fuel tank flange, refer to Figure 1.
For warranty purposes use Labor Operation T6318 at .4 hour.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
