Some 1987-1988 Allantes may experience a flickering generator voltage light when driving over bumps or during hard braking. This condition may be due to a voltage spike on either circuit 23 or 225 to the BCM. Such a spike could be caused by the battery cables not being restrained and rubbing against the exhaust manifold. The positive and negative battery cables should be held by a bracket at the vehicle speed sensor mounting location, refer to Figure 1. Any vehicle not equipped with this bracket, P/N 1645324, should be repaired as follows:
1. Remove sensor mounting bolt and replace with stud, P/N 10044880. Torque the bolt to 21-27 N-m.
2. Inspect battery cables for damage due to chafing while unrestrained, and replace as necessary.
3. Encircle the battery cables with bracket, refer to Figure 1.
4. Guide the holes in the bracket over the stud and secure the bracket with the nut, PN 11508277. Torque the nut to 9-13 N-m, refer to Figure 1, View A.
For warranty purposes, when installing this bracket use Labor Operation T6254 at .4 hour.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
