Some 1987-1989 Allantes may experience a water leak in the area of the hard top side roof rail weatherstrip retainers. This leak may be caused by water getting under the drip rail seam and entering the car through the weatherstrip retainer screw holes. After removing the side roof rail interior trim, repair this condition using the following procedure:
1. Mask off the painted surfaces of the drip rail and roof panel to prevent damage.
2. Using a pick tool, carefully lift the inboard edge of the drip rail cosmetic tape.
3. Apply a bead of 3M Flex Clear, P/N 08401, or Kent 1 Wet/Dry Clear LC-C, P/N 10500(32135),sealer along the entire length of the channel and brush under the lip of the cosmetic tape. Refer to Figure 1.
4. Reinstall the cosmetic tape.
5. Apply a second bead of sealer along the length of the drip rail on top of the cosmetic tape and brush to the outboard side of the rail. Refer to Figure 3.
6. Use RM 900 Pre-Kleano solvent or equivalent to clean off excessive sealer.
7. Remove the protective tape from the roof and water test for a minimum of five minutes.
8. Reinstall interior trim.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition.
