ERRATIC OPERATION OF THE MEMORY SEAT

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1987-89 V

The driver's memory seat in some 1987-1989 Allantes may experience intermittent operation. This condition may cause the system to lose its memory for the seat positions. If this occurs and one of the memory buttons is pushed, the function either may not activate (resulting in no seat movement) or the power seat may move to the default position (all the way forward and up). Positions 1, 2, and EXIT can be affected.

The memory circuit is designed with a memory button latch disable to allow automatic movement of the seat to the stored position only with the gear selector in park. In any other gear the driver must press and hold the button for as long as seat movement is desired. The disable function will not be affected by the memory loss.

To repair this condition verify that the memory seat module C4 connector has 12 volts at all times at cavity 8, and 0 volts at all times at cavity 1. Refer to Section 8A of the Service Information Manual, Cell 140, for wiring and connector references.

If the above checks OK, replace the memory seat module with P/N 3520121.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
