Some 1987-1992 Allantes may experience one or more of the following driveability symptoms:
0 Engine surge/miss at idle with high electrical or A/C load
0 Erratic secondary scope patterns
0 Intermittent stalls
0 Intermittent backfires
0 Intermittent loss of power
0 Black smoke/rotten egg odor from tail pipe
0 Detonation
0 Dieseling
0 Intermittent no start
0 Poor fuel economy
These conditions may be caused by a poor ECM ground. This results in erratic EST operation as commanded by the ECM.
To correct this condition remove the nut and cable for G111 at the right - hand shock tower. Remove any paint or primer from this area. Reinstall the cable and nut. Apply appropriate sealer to prevent corrosion. Refer to Figure 1.
For warranty purposes use Labor Operation T6677 at .2 hour.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
