1989 ALLANTE OWNERS INFORMATION

THREE ITEMS RELATING TO 1989 ALLANTE OWNER'S INFORMATION REQUIRE DEALERSHIP ASSISTANCE TO ENSURE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION:

1. SOME ALLANTES SHIPPED ON OR BEFORE SEPTEMBER 26 WERE SHIPPED WITHOUT THE GOLD KEY DELIVERY SYSTEM PACKAGE, P/N 1649656. PACKAGES ARE ATTACHED TO THE "SHIP TO" DEALERSHIPS ON ALL ALLANTES AFFECTED. ALL GOLD KEY DELIVERY ITEMS SHOULD BE PRESENTED TO OWNERS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

2. TWO DIFFERENT CONVERTIBLE TOP DESIGNS ARE USED ON 1989 ALLANTES. SOME ALLANTES SHIPPED BEFORE OCTOBER 11, 1988 MAY INCLUDE THE INCORRECT CONVERTIBLE TOP QUICK REFERENCE TRI-FOLD CARD IN THE GOLD KEY OWNER'S INFORMATION PACKAGE. PART NUMBER 1646445 (REDDISH BROWN PRINT) MUST BE USED WITH ALL 1989 ALLANTES HAVING VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (VIN) LAST FOUR DIGITS FROM 0001 THROUGH 0656. PART NUMBER 1649579 (BLACK PRINT) MAY BE USED ONLY WITH VIN'S OF 0657 AND ABOVE. THE THREE ITEMS IN STEP 7 OF P/N 1646445 MUST BE COMPLETED WHEN LOWERING THE CONVERTIBLE TOP ON ALLANTES WITH VIN'S OF 0656 AND LOWER. THIS PERMITS THE TOP TO STACK MORE COMPACTLY AND PROVIDE THE CLEARANCE NEEDED TO CLOSE THE CONVERTIBLE TOP STOWAGE COVER PROPERLY.

A BROWN TRI-FOLD CARD, P/N 1646445, IS ENCLOSED FOR EACH AFFECTED VEHICLE(S) LISTED BELOW WHICH HAS BEEN SHIPPED TO YOUR DEALERSHIP:

PLEASE ARRANGE TO REPLACE THE BLACK TRI-FOLD CARDS AT THE OWNER'S EARLIEST CONVENIENCE AND ON ANY LISTED ALLANTE IN NEW CAR INVENTORY OR DEALERSHIP SERVICE.

3. ALL 1989 ALLANTES ARE EQUIPPED WITH AN OIL LIFE INDEX INDICATOR. THIS NEW FEATURE INDICATES WHEN ENGINE OIL NEEDS TO BE CHANGED BY DISPLAYING A "CHANGE ENGINE OIL" MESSAGE ON THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER. AFTER AN OIL CHANGE, THE OIL LIFE INDEX MUST BE RESET TO 100 BY PRESSING THE "RANGE" AND "AVE SPEED" BUTTONS FOR MORE THAN FIVE SECONDS OR UNTIL THE "100" MESSAGE APPEARS.

THE OWNER'S MANUAL HAS INCORRECT RESET INSTRUCTIONS ON PAGES 35 AND 63. ALLANTES SHIPPED BEFORE OCTOBER 11, 1988 REQUIRE THAT THE TWO ENCLOSED ADHESIVE-BACKED LABELS BE AFFIXED TO EACH RESPECTIVE PAGE AS SHOWN BY THE SHADED AREAS ON THE SAMPLE PAGES ATTACHED. THE FOLLOWING VEHICLES SHIPPED TO YOUR DEALERSHIP MUST HAVE BOTH LABELS INSTALLED:

PLEASE ARRANGE TO AFFIX THESE LABELS AT THE OWNER'S EARLIEST CONVENIENCE AND ON ALL LISTED ALLANTES IN NEW CAR INVENTORY OR DEALERSHIP SERVICE.

YOUR USUAL FINE COOPERATION IN ENSURING THAT THESE IMPORTANT CUSTOMER SATISFACTION ITEMS ARE COMPLETED PROMPTLY IS APPRECIATED.
