Published service parts information has not yet been updated to include breakpoints for 1990 vehicles built with option code V4J (semi-automatic soft top). When ordering seat belt assemblies for these vehicles, use the 1991 published part numbers.
A retractor end cap revision on the passenger side (right-hand) shoulder belt retractor has been incorporated into the new assemblies for the V4J soft top. Refer to Figure 1 for an illustration comparing the driver and passenger side outboard end caps.
End caps should not be removed from retractors during service. Dislodging the retractor spring cap/retainer may cause the spring to eject. Retractors with loose or missing end caps should be replaced as a unit.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
