Some 1987-1990 Allantes may experience a condition of slight fuel odor. This condition may be caused by a saturated fuel vapor canister releasing vapors into the engine compartment that are drawn into the passenger compartment by the A/C system.
To repair this condition reroute the fuel vapor canister fresh air vent using the following procedure:
1. Insert vent cap assembly, P/N 8640496, into one end of hose, GM 6165-M, 20.5" long 5/16" I.D.
2. Remove cap at the fuel vapor canister fresh air vent.
3. Clamp open end of hose to the canister fresh air vent with a hose clamp.
4. Route the hose through the hole in the air cleaner bracket.
5. Attach free end of hose to hole in lower fan support using clip, P/N 3866187, and screw, P/N 11514845.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
