General Motors of Canada has determined that certain 1990 Cadillac Allantes built for Canadian use may experience a condition of inoperative daytime running lights. Daytime running lights provide front fog light illumination while the engine is running and the gear selector is not in park. Inoperative daytime running lights may result from an incorrect option word 1 value being stored in the BCM.
To correct the option word 1 value, Dealers will reprogram the BCM EEPROM to the number displayed.

Time allowance includes 0.1 hour for dealer administrative detail associated with this campaign. Parts credit will be based on dealer net plus 30% to cover parts handling.
(The option word 1 value is a number from 0 to 255 representing option content. The BCM uses this value to determine how to operate displays and electronic controls.) To verify the option word 1 value:
1. Enter diagnostics and note option word 1 (parameter BS07) value. Refer to the Service Information Manual, Section 8D, if you are unfamiliar with self-diagnostics.
2. The value of BS07 should read 122. If the values agree, the option word 1 value is correct and is not the cause of this condition. (Refer to Section 8A for diagnosis of lighting system or 8D3 for diagnosis of lighting codes if found.) If the values do not agree, follow the procedure below.
To correct the option word 1 value:
1. Select BCM override BS07. 2. Use the "warm" and "cool" buttons to increase or decrease the option word 1 value until it equals 122. 3. Press and hold the "elapsed time" and "fuel used" buttons simultaneously for five seconds (display value will flash when complete).
This will reprogram the BCM EEPROM to the number displayed.
4. Install Campaign Identification Label.
Clean surface of radiator upper mounting panel and apply a Campaign Identification Label. Make sure the correct campaign number is inserted on the label. This will indicate that the campaign has been completed.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
