SLIGHT FUEL ODOR/RE-ROUTE FUEL VAPOR CANISTER FRESH AIR VENT

SUBJECT: SLIGHT FUEL ODOUR (REROUTE FUEL VAPOUR CANISTER FRESH AIR VENT)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1987-90 CADILLAC ALLANTES

This bulletin is being revised to include a separate procedure for 1987-88 Allantes, art work, and a new part number.

Some 1987-1990 Allantes may experience a condition of slight fuel odor. This condition may be caused by a saturated fuel vapor canister. The saturated canister releases vapors into the engine compartment.

To repair this condition reroute the fuel vapor canister fresh air vent using the following procedures:

1987-1988 Allantes (Refer to Figures 1-3):

1. Remove canister from vehicle following the procedure outlined in Section 6E-C3 of the appropriate Service Information Manual.

For steps 2-7 Refer to Figure 1,

2. Remove the bucket.

3. Snap out the inner support and discard.

4. Insert vent cap, P/N 8640496, into one end of hose using hose material, GM 6165-M, 20.5" long, 5/16" I.D.

5. Install open end of hose onto funnel and clamp to base with a hose clamp.

6. Snap funnel, P/N 7021697, onto the bottom of the canister.

7. Route hose through the opening in bucket created in step 3 and reinstall canister and bucket per Section 6E-C3 of the appropriate Service Information Manual.

8. Route the hose through the LH wheelhouse panel. Refer to Figure 2.

IMPORTANT: Use the LH wheelhouse panel to avoid kinking the vent hose.

9. Attach free end of hose to hole in lower fan support using clip, P/N 3866187, and screw, P/N 11514845. Refer to Fig. 3.

IMPORTANT: Make sure the hose is not routed close to the fan blades, as damage to the hose could result.

For vehicles repaired under warranty use: .4 hour.

1989-1990 Allantes (Refer to Figures 3 and 4):

1. Remove cap from the fuel vapor canister fresh air vent and discard. Refer to Figure 4.

2. Insert vent cap, P/N 8640496, into one end of hose using hose material, GM 6165-M, 52cm (20.5") long, 5/16" I.D. Refer to Figure 3.

3. Install open end of hose over the canister fresh air vent and clamp with a hose clamp. Refer to Figure 4.

4. Route the hose through the air cleaner support. Refer to Figure 4.

5. Attach free end of hose to hole in lower fan support using clip, P/N 3866187, and screw, P/N 11514845. Refer to Fig.3.

For vehicles repaired under warranty use: .2 hour.
