VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1990-91 V
Some 1990-1991 Allantes may experience a condition of increased travel of the inside door handle when opening the door. This condition may be caused by an incorrect adjustment of the inside locking rod. To check the inside handle adjustment use the following procedure:
1. Remove the armrest pad from the lower door panel.
2. Lift the power window switch pod from the lower door panel.
3. Disconnect the inside handle rod from the inside handle rod clip.
4. On a properly adjusted door handle the rod should fall 4mm (one rod diameter) short of the handle rod clip. Refer to Figure 1. Adjust rod length by turning threaded rod nut.
To adjust the inside handle rod it may be necessary to add threads to the rod to allow further travel of threaded rod nut. To perform this operation use the following procedure:
1. Remove the lower trim panel.
2. Remove rod end by unscrewing threaded rod nut.
3. Using a 4mm x .7mm die, add threads to the rod sufficient for proper adjustment.
4. Install the lower trim panel without the armrest pad and power window switch pod.
5. Use the previous procedure for inside handle adjustment, and install power window switch pod and armrest pad.
6. Check inside door handle effort.
In addition to the above procedure, weatherstrip lubricant, GM Goodwrench P/N 3634770, may be added to the upper lock pillar socket and the mating door trim seal.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
