Some 1993 Allante's are equipped with a new oil level sensor. The new sensor is identical to the earlier Northstar engine production oil level sensor with the exception of connector head configuration. Refer to Figure 1. Both parts are interchangeable for service purposes.
To properly service the new sensor the following procedure should be followed:
1 . Hoist vehicle. 2. Drain engine oil. 3. Loosen oil level sensor until connector terminals are oriented 90 degrees with respect to the floor. Refer to Figure 2. 4. Disconnect electrical connector with a flat terminal pick or a small flat-end screw driver as indicated in Figure 2. 5. Remove and replace oil level sensor. 6. Lower vehicle and refill engine oil to proper level.
For warranty purposes use Labor Operation N4580 at .3 hour.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
