Squeak Type Noise Coming from Inside of Front Seat When Seat Belt is Moved (Replace Seat Belt Roller Assembly)

This bulletin is being revised to update the correction information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 03-09-40-001 (Section 09 -- Restraints)

Some customers may comment that when the front seat belt is moved, a squeak type noise can be heard coming from the seat. This condition does not affect seat belt performance.

The front seat shoulder belt is routed over a roller (pulley). The roller can become noisy and squeak when the user of the belt moves in the seat.

Replace the seat belt roller assembly using the procedure listed below.

Important: DO NOT try to lubricate the roller. Lubricant may leak out of the roller and onto the seat belt or seat resulting in damage to those components.

The following procedure has been updated within SI. If you are using a paper version of this Service Manual, please make a reference to this bulletin on the affected page.

1. Remove the seat back trim from the seat assembly.

1.1.	Grasp the top portion and pull out to release the push-in fasteners.

1.2.	Firmly lift upwards to remove the seat back trim.

2. Remove the head restraint from the retainers.
3. Remove the head restraint retainers from the seat assembly.
4. Remove all of the seat back cover J channels retaining the seat back cover to the seat back frame.
5. Remove the inflatable restraint side impact module from the seat assembly.

5.1.	Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 7 for driver's seat or SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 9 for passenger's seat in the SIR sub-section of the Service Manual.

5.2.	Remove the 2 bolts from the inflatable restraint side impact module bracket.

5.3.	Remove the module from the seat.

5.4.	Remove the CPA and disconnect the electrical connector.

6. Remove the seat back cover far enough to gain access to the roller assembly.
7. Remove the seat belt roller assembly cover screws.
8. Remove the seat belt roller assembly cover.
9. Lift the seat belt over the roller assembly.



10. Remove the seat belt roller assembly bolt (1) from the lower seat frame.
11. Remove the roller assembly.
12. Install the new seat belt roller assembly into the seat frame.
13. Install the roller assembly bolt (1).

Tighten
Tighten the retaining nuts to 52 N·m (38 lb ft).

14. Install the seat belt roller assembly cover.
15. Install the seat belt roller assembly screws.

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

16. Ensure that the seat belt is not twisted.
17. Install the seat back cover.
18. Install the inflatable restraint side impact module to the seat assembly.

18.1.

Connect the electrical connector and install the CPA.

18.2.

Install the module to the seat.

18.3.

Install the 2 bolts to the inflatable restraint side impact module bracket.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

18.4.

Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 7 for driver's seat or SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 9 for passenger's seat in the SIR sub-section of the Service Manual.

19. Install all of the seat back cover J channels retaining the seat back cover to the seat back frame.
20. Install the seat back trim to the seat assembly.
21. Install the head restraint retainers to the seat assembly.
22. Install the head restraint into the retainers.
23. Ensure the seat belt operates correctly.
