5L40E / 5L50E No Movement with Output Shaft to Yoke Retaining Nut Loose - automatic drive first no reverse slip transmission

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

The 5L40E/5L50E automatic transmission may exhibit a condition of no forward and or reverse and the output shaft retaining nut is found loose.

The output shaft nut should be replaced using nut kit part number 96041805 and steps 16, 17 and 18 from TSB 02-07-30-026. Loctite® L609 (similar to JB Weld) should be applied to the retaining nut even though there is an adhesive patch on the nut.

Some movement in the output shaft will be noticed after the installation of the nut kit; this is normal.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
