Replacement Trunk Release Cable Does Not Fit - keywords bracket deck decklid handle latch lid mounting rear striker trap trunk

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.

When replacing the decklid striker assembly (part number 21995513) on a 2003 CTS built prior to 07/22/02, the Technician may notice that the mounting bracket for the trap release handle is different from the original handle.

It will be necessary to drill holes in the rear package shelf and rivet the new handle into place. A CTS built after 07/22/02 may be used to reference the correct mounting location of the handle.

Notice: Use caution when drilling into the package shelf to avoid hitting any other components.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
