Info - Recommended Cleaning Procedure for Residue or Water Marks on Hood Insulator

Subject:Recommended Cleaning Procedure for Residue or Water Marks On Hood Insulator

Models:2003 Cadillac CTS

Important: Vehicle interior and exterior cleanliness is essential for increased customer purchase and delivery satisfaction.

The purpose of this service bulletin is to assist the technician in removing the residue or water marks from the hood insulator (blanket).

The residue or water marks on the hood insulator may look similar to white "salt-like" stains. These stains may have been caused by the hood insulator becoming saturated during the assembly plant water test and, after drying, leaving a noticeable mineral deposit.

The stains can be removed by using the following cleaning procedure:

Cleaning Procedure

Recommended Material

CLR™ * (Calcium Lime Rust) is a commercially available cleaner that can be purchased locally. For product or purchase information, in the U.S. call 1-800-323-5497 extension 310; in Canada call (416) 740-8660 or visit their website at www.jelmar.com.

Important: Prior to use, refer to the manufacturer's cautions listed on the product's labels.

  1. Hold a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of CLR™ and clean water approximately 5 -7.6 cm (2-3 in) from the hood insulator (blanket).
  2. Spray small areas to be cleaned with enough CLR™ to saturate, not soak, the hood insulator material.
  3. Important: Avoid damage to the hood insulator material by NOT rubbing excessively.

  4. Gently blot and lightly wipe the sprayed area with a clean, lint-free cloth that has been dampened with CLR™. The solution will foam slightly before being absorbed.
  5. DO NOT rinse the hood insulator (blanket) with water after cleaning.
