Subject: | "Service Stability System" Message Appears on Driver Information Center (DIC), DTC C1286 Set (Reprogram Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM)) |
Models: | 2003 Cadillac CTS with RPO JL4 |
Built Prior To VIN Breakpoint 30113080 |
Some customers may comment about the appearance of the "Service Stability System" message on the Driver Information Center (DIC) after operating the vehicle in Reverse (R) and then shifting it into Drive (D). Customers may also comment that the Stabilitrak™ -- Vehicle Stability Enhancement System (VSES) is not functioning properly.
The technician may find any of the following conditions:
• | Current or history DTC C1286 set. |
• | VSES turned off. |
• | Antilock Brake System (ABS) and Traction Control System (TCS) functions properly. |
This condition may be due to a unique software issue within the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) that causes the display of the "Service Stability System" message and sets a false diagnostic trouble code.
A new service calibration is now available for reprogramming the EBCM.
Important: Prior to performing the reprogramming procedure, review the following:
• Service Programming System (SPS) Notice, SI #823104 (Preface-Cautions &
Notices-Introduction). • Service Programming System (SPS) Description, SI #825767 (Vehicle
Control Systems-Programming-Description & Operation).
Important: Ensure the Tech 2™ and terminal have been updated with software version 3.5 (released March 25, 2002) or greater before attempting this procedure.
• | If the scan tool displays DTC C1286, go to Step 2. |
• | If the scan tool does NOT display DTC C1286, go to Step 3. |
Electronic calibration files are NOT available from GMSPO.
Calibrations are available from Techline beginning with the TIS 2000 data release of version 3.5 (released March, 2002) or greater.
