DEFINITION: The navigation voice guidance is inoperative (you can not hear voice commands), or the voice guidance volume is reduced or noisy.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF. The Cadillac emblem screen appears on the navigation radio.
  2. Press the radio NAV button on the radio.
  3. When the navigation disclaimer screen appears, press the I AGREE button on the display.
  4. The display should show the current position of the vehicle. The navigation map should be clear and have clear color.
  5. Plan a route by entering a destination. Select SIMULATION from the navigation menu. The voice commands should be clear and they should guide the route.

Does the system operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  2. Make sure the voice guidance is turned ON.
  3. Make sure the audio level is adjusted to a high enough level to be heard.

Is the audio portion of the voice guidance system operational?

Go to Step 7

Test the following circuits for an open, a short to ground, or a short to voltage:

    • The voice prompt output high circuit
    • The voice prompt output low circuit
    • The voice prompt shield circuit

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the navigation radio. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Replace the navigation radio. Refer to Control Module References .

Did you complete the replacement?
