Press the trunk release button on the driver door.

Does the deck lid open?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF, car in PARK.
  3. With a scan tool, view the Trunk Release Switch input parameter in the RIM data list.
  4. Operate the trunk release switch.

Does the parameter change state?

Go to Step 6

  1. Disconnect the trunk release switch.
  2. With a scan tool, view the Trunk Release Switch input parameter in the RIM data list.
  3. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper between the trunk release switch signal circuit and a good ground.

Does the parameter change state?

  1. With a scan tool, view the Trunk Release Switch input parameter in the RIM data list.
  2. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper between the trunk release switch signal circuit and the trunk release switch ground circuit.

Does the parameter change state?

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release actuator.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the rear compartment lid release actuator control voltage circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator and a good ground.
  3. Command the Trunk Release Relay ON.

Does the test lamp turn ON for 1 second?

  1. Connect a test lamp between the rear compartment lid release actuator control voltage circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator and the rear compartment lid release actuator ground circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator.
  2. Command the Trunk Release Relay ON.

Does the test lamp turn ON for 1 second?

Test the ground circuit of the trunk release switch for high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the trunk release signal circuit of the trunk release switch for high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the rear compartment lid release actuator control voltage circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator for high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the trunk release switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
