Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the low beam headlamps.
  3. Turn ON the front fog lamps.
  4. Observe the rear fog lamps.
  5. Turn ON and OFF the rear fog lamps.
  6. Turn OFF the ignition .

Did the rear fog lamps operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Position the rear fog lamp switch to the OFF position.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the Rear Fog Lamp Switch parameter in the dash integration module (DIM) Inputs data list.

Does the scan tool indicate that the rear fog lamp switch is parameter Idle?

Go to Step 4

With a scan tool, observe the Rear Fog Lamp Relay status in the DIM Outputs data list.

Does the scan tool indicate the rear fog lamp relay is parameter Off?

Go to Step 5

  1. Turn OFF the ignition .
  2. Disconnect the rear fog lamp relay. Refer to Relay Replacement .
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Did the rear fog lamps turn OFF?

Go to Step 6

  1. Turn OFF the ignition .
  2. Connect a test lamp between the rear fog lamp relay control side supply voltage circuit and the fog lamp relay control circuit.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 8

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the multifunction, turn signal switch.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool observe the Rear Fog Lamp Switch parameter.

Does the scan tool indicate the Rear Fog Lamp Switch parameter is Idle?

Test for a short to ground in the fog lamp relay control circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Test the rear fog lamp switch signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Test the rear fog lamp switch signal circuit for high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the DIM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the multifunction, turn signal switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .
