Tools Required

    • J 24402-A Glass Sealant Cold Knife Remover
    • J 39032 Stationary Glass Removal Tool
    • Urethane Adhesive Kit GM P/N 12346392 or Equivalent
    • Isopropyl Alcohol or Equivalent
    • Cartridge-type Caulking Gun
    • Commercial-type Utility Knife
    • Razor Blade Scraper
    • Suction Cups
    • Plastic Paddle

Removal Procedure

    Caution: If a window is cracked but still intact, crisscross the window with masking tape in order to reduce the risk of damage or personal injury.

    Important: Before cutting out a stationary window, apply a double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and the interior trim.

  1. Open the rear compartment lid in order to access the reveal molding (1).

  2. Object Number: 784639  Size: SH
  3. Remove the OnStar® antenna. Refer to Cellular Communications/Digital Radio Antenna Replacement in Cellular Communication.
  4. Remove the rear seat cushion. Refer to Rear Seat Cushion Replacement in Seats.
  5. Remove the rear seat back. Refer to Rear Seat Back Replacement in Seats.
  6. Remove the rear sail trim panels. Refer to Sail Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
  7. Remove the headliner. Refer to Headlining Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
  8. Caution: If broken glass falls into the defroster outlets, it can be blown into the passenger compartment and cause personal injury.

  9. Cover to protect the following parts from broken glass:
  10. • Rear shelf trim panel
    • Defroster outlets and A/C outlets
    • Carpeting
    • Rear speaker

  11. Disconnect all of the rear window electrical connectors.

  12. Object Number: 71179  Size: SH

    Important: Keep the cutting edge of the tool against the window.

  13. This will allow the urethane adhesive to be separated from the window.
  14. • Leave a base of urethane on the pinchweld flange.
    • The only suitable lubrication is clear water.
    • Use J 24402-A , J 39032 or equivalent in order to remove the window.

  15. With the aid of an assistant, use the suction cups in order to lift the rear window (2) from the opening.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 757629  Size: SH
  1. The locator pins (1) are used in order to hold the rear window in position.
  2. Install the rear window into the opening. Refer to Adhesive Installation of Stationary Windows .

  3. Object Number: 401856  Size: SH
  4. Connect all of the rear window electrical connectors.
  5. Install the headliner. Refer to Headlining Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
  6. Install the rear sail trim panels. Refer to Sail Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
  7. Install the rear seat back. Refer to Rear Seat Back Replacement in Seats.
  8. Install the rear seat cushion. Refer to Rear Seat Cushion Replacement in Seats.
  9. Install the OnStar® antenna. Refer to Cellular Communications/Digital Radio Antenna Replacement in Cellular Communication.
  10. Cycle the rear compartment lid open and close in order to position the lower reveal molding under the rear compartment lid.
  11. Remove the double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and the interior trim.
