GM Administrative Message WIS20040011, dated October 21, 2004, announced the release of ASI bulletin 04-07-29-003. The bulletin included a list of vehicles that required the technician to perform a specific transmission inspection procedure and, if necessary, replace the transmission. Subsequently, ASI bulletin 04-07-29-003A was issued to correct a telephone number in the bulletin.
Through the analysis of additional suspect transmissions, GM Powertrain Engineering has now determined that the countershaft snap ring groove is within specification and that slight shift lever movement is a normal characteristic.
Therefore, ASI bulletin number 04-07-29-003A has been canceled and no further inspections are required.
Effective immediately, transmission inspection claims for labor operation K9701 that have a repair order date later than November 30, 2004 will no longer be accepted for payment.
Any abnormal transmission noise concerns involving these vehicles should be diagnosed and repaired using currently published Service Information.
