Subject:Change Oil Message Not Displayed Cadillac CTS and SRX

Models:

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may comment that the "Change Oil" message did not appear or only appeared briefly one time and the oil life monitor is at 0%.

Recommendation/Instructions:

This may be caused by any of the following conditions:

  1. The ECM for the HFV6 does not send the "Change Oil" message to the DIC until the oil life is at 0.4%. At this point, the Oil Life Monitor will display 0%.
  2. The ECM for the HFV6 sends the Change Oil message between key on and crank in the first 500 msec. The DIC does not display information during crank and the time between Key On and Crank may be too short for the message to be displayed or noticed.
  3. The "Change Oil" message is only displayed one time per ignition cycle and will not be re-displayed when in Run.

Engineering is aware of the condition. No repair attempts should be made at this time. Please advise customers to monitor the percentage of Oil Life Remaining on their Oil Life Monitor to determine when the oil should be changed.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
