This bulletin is being revised to announce the full service strategy for the Aisin AY6 6-Speed Manual Transmission. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 05-07-29-003 (Section 07 - Transmission/Transaxle).

The 2005 Cadillac CTS has been released with an Aisin AY6 6-speed manual transmission (RPO MV1). This transmission is used with the 3.6L V6 (RPO LY7) and the 2.8L V6 (RPO LP1) engine. The repair strategy is to service this transmission as an assembly within warranty only. Failed transmissions are to be returned to the Warranty Parts Center (WPC) under the current procedure. An automated WPC return request will provide the authorization to return the transmission.

Service of the Aisin MV1 manual transmission as an assembly will be effective within the assembly's warranty period (4 years/50,000 miles [80,000 km]) only. During the transmission’s warranty period, non-intrusive service procedures may be performed. These exceptions for MV1 serviceability are extended to on-vehicle service components only. Refer to the table of serviceable components specified below. Within warranty, a mechanical diagnosis that identifies internal components as failed or worn should be remedied with a unit replacement.

Important: Conversely, upon warranty expiration, voided warranty and customer pay issues, service of the Aisin RPO MV1 transmission should be handled using a full service unit repair strategy, using the Service Manual, special tools and component parts for service.

This service strategy allows for Aisin analysis of failed material. It is important that these failed units not be opened or disturbed.
