Key Will Not Turn in Door Lock Cylinder and/or Binds (Add Washer Between Outside Handle Stud and Anti-Theft Cover)

Some customers may comment that the key will not turn in the door lock cylinder and/or the key binds.

This condition may be caused by hard contact between the anti-theft ("thatcham") cover and the key cylinder.

Install a washer between the outside handle stud and the anti-theft cover following the procedure below:

1. Remove the interior door trim panel. Refer to "Trim Panel Replacement - Side Front Door" (SI Document ID 754381).
2. Remove the inside door handle. Refer to "Door Handle Replacement - Front Inside" (SI Document ID 754297).
3. Remove the door control module. Refer to "Door Control Module Replacement" (SI Document ID 754293).
4. Remove the water deflector. Refer to "Water Deflector Replacement - Front Door" (SI Document ID 759523).
5. Remove the window glass. Refer to "Window Replacement - Front Door" (SI Document ID 761559).
6. Remove the rear piece of the window regulator. Refer to "Window Regulator Replacement - Front Door" (SI Document ID 761491).
7. Remove the anti-theft shield.



8. Install the washer, P/N 15650961, on the stud.
9. Install the anti-theft shield, using the new nut, P/N 11517068.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

10. Verify that the key turns smoothly in the lock cylinder.
11. Install the window regulator. Refer to "Window Regulator Replacement - Front Door" (SI Document ID 761491).
12. Install the window glass. Refer to "Window Replacement - Front Door" (SI Document ID 761559).
13. Install the water deflector. Refer to "Water Deflector Replacement - Front Door" (SI Document ID 759523).
14. Install the door control module. Refer to "Door Control Module Replacement" (SI Document ID 754293).
15. Install the inside door handle. Refer to "Door Handle Replacement - Front Inside" (SI Document ID 754297).
16. Install the interior door trim panel. Refer to "Trim Panel Replacement - Side Front Door" (SI Document ID 754381).
