Subject: | Irregular Tire Wear (16" Goodyear tires RPO QWJ) |
Models: | 2004-2006 Cadillac CTS |
This PI was superseded to update Recommendation/Instructions. Please discard PIC3703A.
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Some vehicles may experience irregular tire wear or cupping of all 4 tires on vehicles equipped with 16" Goodyear tires (RPO QWJ).
The wear condition has been investigated. The preferred alignment setting, for reduced irregular tire wear, is to set Camber and Toe to zero degrees. Regular tire rotations that do not exceed 6000 miles have also improved tire wear patterns.
A new compound tire was also developed and broke into vehicle production on 1/20/2006. This compound should provide better frictional wear performance when combined with the above procedures.
All previous compound tires were exhausted from Goodyear warehouse distribution centers during the month of January.
Replacement tires through the SPO Goodwrench tire program will now all have been built in 2006 and will have the new compound.
SPO's Goodwrench service part number has not changed.
The updated tires can be identified through the DOT number (1) on the tire.
Note: All tires with built in 2006 will have the new compound.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
