SES On (P0451 P0453 P0446) Or Fuel Tank Is Hard To Fill - keywords MIL

This PI was superseded to update models, model years and the Recommendation/Instructions field. Please discard PIC3215.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

A customer may comment the check engine light is on or that the fuel tank is hard to fill. One or more of the following DTC may be stored.

P0446 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Vent System Performance

P0451 Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) Sensor Performance

P0453 Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) Sensor Circuit High Voltage

The cause may be a spider nest in the EVAP systems fresh air inlet restricting the flow of air.

1. Remove and obstructions in the fresh air inlet.

For CTS and STS: Remove the fresh air inlet cover (1) and filter (2) from the EVAP canister (3). Clean any debris that may be causing a restriction in the inlet or filter.




2. For SRX: Disconnect the fresh air tube (4) from the EVAP canister (5) and flush the air tube with clean water.



3. Installing a screen (A/C kit J-44551-16 screen size B fits well) over the end of the inlet may help to prevent future blockages.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
