Tools Required

J 45859 Axle Remover, or equivalent

Removal Procedure
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
  3. Remove the rear brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement .

    4. Object Number: 787851 Size: SH
  4. Remove and discard the wheel drive shaft nut .

    5. Object Number: 767222 Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the ABS sensor electrical connector.
  6. Disconnect the ABS sensor electrical connector from the backing plate.

    7. Object Number: 767225 Size: SH
  7. Remove the parking brake cable bracket mounting bolts from the knuckle.
  8. Remove the parking brake cable bracket from the knuckle.

    9. Object Number: 899220 Size: SH
  9. Install J 45859 , CJ129 Universal Hub Puller - Snap-on, 7394 Universal Hub Puller - OTC, or equivalent, to the wheel bearing/hub.
  10. Using J 45859 , CJ129 Universal Hub Puller - Snap-on, 7394 Universal Hub Puller - OTC, or equivalent, disengage the wheel drive shaft from the wheel bearing/hub.

    11. Object Number: 783031 Size: SH
  11. Remove the wheel bearing/hub mounting bolts.

    12. Important: The wheel hub remover may be needed in order to fully disengage the wheel bearing/hub from the drive axle.

  12. Remove the wheel bearing/hub and backing plate from the knuckle.
  13. Remove J 45859 , CJ129 Universal Hub Puller - Snap-on, 7394 Universal Hub Puller - OTC, or equivalent, from the wheel bearing/hub.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 783031 Size: SH
  1. Install the wheel bearing/hub and backing plate to the knuckle.

    2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  2. Install the wheel bearing/hub mounting bolts.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 125 N·m (92 lb ft).

  3. Install the parking brake cable bracket to the knuckle.
  4. Install the parking brake cable bracket mounting bolts to the knuckle.

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 60 N·m (44 lb ft).

  5. Connect the ABS sensor electrical connector to the backing plate.
  6. Connect the ABS sensor electrical connector.

    7. Object Number: 787851 Size: SH
  7. Install a new wheel drive shaft nut.

    8. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 160 N·m (118 lb ft).

  8. Install the brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement .
  9. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  10. Lower the vehicle.
