Subject:Clunk Noise in Rear Suspension Over Bumps

Models:2008 Cadillac CTS

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may comment on a clunk or rattle noise in the rear of the vehicle over bumps. This could be caused by the rear stabilizer shaft link or the shock absorber lower bushing in the rear suspension knuckle.

Recommendation/Instructions:

  1. Check the Stabilizer Shaft Links to be sure that rod is properly attached to the ball pivot.
  2. Check the shock absorber lower bushing in the rear suspension knuckle on both sides of the vehicle. Pull on the lower end of the shock absorber in a fore aft direction to check that the rubber bushing has not de-bonded from the knuckle.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
