The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

A customer may comment about a rattle, tapping, or creaking from the rear area of the roof while driving. The cause may be intermittent contact (1) between the body side panel (2) and the sunroof reinforcement panel (3) in the rear corner of the roof.

Recommendation/Instructions:

  1. Lower the headliner in the corner where the noise is coming from to confirm the source. Applying pressure with your hand to the panels in this area can lessen or eliminate the noise.
  2. Important: There is structural adhesive between these panels. They should not be totally separated from one another.

  3. Use a screw driver or chisel to create a small amount of separation between the panels in the area of contact (1).

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
