Subject: | Battery Goes Dead |
Models: | 2008- 2009 Cadillac CTS |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
A customer may comment their vehicle has a dead battery. A number of warranty claims have come back with batteries that return as No Trouble Found. Engineering would like to visit dealers in Southeastern Michigan that have a vehicle exhibiting this concern who are willing to work with Engineering BEFORE any repairs are perfomed.
For those dealers who are willing to work with engineering, please contact Brian McGloughlin at 248-684-3733. When calling Brian, if the call rolls over to voice mail, please leave the following information:
Contact Name, Dealership, and City/State
Phone Number, Vehicle VIN and Miles
Time of Day
Please also converse with the customer to be able to answer the following questions:
1) Did the driver have any accessories plugged in at the time of the failure (i.e. phone charger)?
2) Was any component of the vehicle left on for a prolong period of time recently such as a light, CD Player, NAV without the vehicle started?
3) Where did the vehicle have the issue (Left in a garage, Outside)?
4) Were the keys left in the vehicle?
5) What is the average driving distance in a day?
6) How long did the vehicle sit between start-ups?
7) If the vehicle is equipped with a hard drive, do they use the vehicle for making cds, TiVo, etc.?
Once the message is left, a return call should be received within 2 business hours. If a return call is not received within this time, please follow the procedure below prior to making any repairs.
1) Check to make sure the lever lock fasteners on the battery posts are secure.
2) Check the battery using the Midtronics tester to make sure the battery is bad before replacing.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
3) If battery is good, please record the vehicle parasitic drain.
Brian will call back for this information even after the 2 hour time frame. Brian's normal business hours are from 7:30 am to 4:00 PM Eastern time.
