Rear Axle Shaft Seal and Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Flange Replacement for Cadillac CTS 2009

Special Tools

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
2. Remove the rear wheel drive shaft. Refer to Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement .



3. Using the J 24420-C and the J 2619-01 , remove the rear drive axle flange.



4. Using a flat-bladed screwdriver, remove the drive axle flange axle seal (1)  from the differential side cover (2).

1. Apply a small amount of clean 75W-90 synthetic gear lube, GM P/N 12378261 (Canadian P/N 10953455) to the sealing lips of the seal.



2. Using the J 21426  (1) and a hammer, install the drive axle flange seal (2) in the differential side cover (3).



3. Using the appropriate tool, install the wheel drive flange in the rear differential.
4. Install the rear wheel drive shaft. Refer to Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement .
5. Inspect the fluid level of the rear drive axle. Refer to Rear Axle Lubricant Level Inspection .
6. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
