Park Brake Cable Mounting Bracket Replacement Without Electronic Parking Brake

J-37043 Parking Brake Cable Release Tool

Removal Procedure

Warning: Refer to Brake Dust Warning in the Preface section.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.

  3. Object Number: 1970039  Size: SH
  4. Pull down on the intermediate park brake cable and disconnect the intermediate park brake cable connector (1) from the front park brake cable (2).

  5. Object Number: 751609  Size: SH
  6. Using the J-37043 Parking Brake Cable Release Tool , compress the rear brake cable retainer.
  7. Remove the rear park brake cable from the cable bracket (1).
  8. Disconnect the park brake cable (2) from the park brake actuator lever (3).

  9. Object Number: 1970031  Size: SH
  10. Remove the park brake cable bracket nuts (1).
  11. Remove the park brake cable bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1970031  Size: SH
  1. Install the park brake cable bracket.
  2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Install the park brake cable bracket nuts (1) and tighten to   60 N·m (44 lb ft).

  4. Object Number: 751609  Size: SH
  5. Install the park brake cable to the park brake cable bracket (1).
  6. Ensure the locking tabs are properly seated.
  7. Connect the rear park brake cable (2) to the park brake actuator lever (3).

  8. Object Number: 1970039  Size: SH
  9. Connect the intermediate park brake cable connector (1) to the front park brake cable (2).
  10. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Cycle the park brake pedal 1 to 2 times.

Removal Procedure

Warning: Refer to Brake Dust Warning in the Preface section.

  1. Block the rear drive wheels.
  2. Release the electronic park brake cable tension, if equipped. Refer to Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Disabling.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  4. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  5. Lower, but do not disconnect, the exhaust system enough to gain access to the parking brake cable. Refer to Exhaust System Insulator, Hanger, Bracket Replacement.

  6. Object Number: 2094783  Size: SH
  7. Pull down on the left parking brake rear cable (1) or the right parking brake rear cable (2) and disconnect the cable from the connector.

  8. Object Number: 751609  Size: SH
  9. Using the J-37043 Parking Brake Cable Release Tool , compress the rear brake cable retainer.
  10. Remove the rear park brake cable from the cable bracket (1).
  11. Disconnect the park brake cable (2) from the park brake actuator lever (3).

  12. Object Number: 1970031  Size: SH
  13. Remove the park brake cable bracket nuts (1).
  14. Remove the park brake cable bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1970031  Size: SH
  1. Install the park brake cable bracket.
  2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Install the park brake cable bracket nuts (1) and tighten to   60 N·m (44 lb ft).

  4. Object Number: 751609  Size: SH
  5. Install the park brake cable to the park brake cable bracket (1).
  6. Ensure the locking tabs are properly seated.
  7. Connect the rear park brake cable (2) to the park brake actuator lever (3).

  8. Object Number: 2094783  Size: SH
  9. Connect the left parking brake rear cable (1) or the right parking brake rear cable (2) to the connector.
  10. Install the exhaust system. Refer to Exhaust System Insulator, Hanger, Bracket Replacement.
  11. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  12. Set the electric park brake cable tension. Refer to Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Enabling.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
