Subject:Clunk Noise from Rear of Vehicle Inspect For Loose Rear Differential Housing Support Bushing

Models:2009 Cadillac CTS

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may comment on a clunk noise from the rear of the vehicle. This may happen on bumps or may happen on torque load changes such as when shifting from reverse to neutral or drive. Diagnosis may reveal a loose differential housing support bushing, allowing the unit to move causing the clunking noise.

Recommendation/Instructions:

If a loose differential housing support bushing is verified, General Motors would like to be contacted so that the cause of the loose bushing can be analyzed.

Please contact Rich Burrell of Brand Quality, at phone number 586-947-5740. Rich may recommend axle assembly replacement. Do not replace the axle without authorization.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
