The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
A customer may comment the speakers pop or make an unwanted noise at one or more of the following occasions.
· The ignition is turned to the crank position.
· The radio is powering up or down.
· The radio is changing sources.
· The mute steering wheel control button is used to mute or un-mute the radio.
· An audible warning (chime) event occurs when the radio is off.
· The radio volume controls are transitioned to/from volume detent zero.
The cause may be the Radio Audio Mute Signal (ckt 5748) is not in the correct radio X1 pin location.
Notice: Even without the Radio Audio Mute Signal, the radio will continue to mute/unmute its audio outputs to the amplifier. This may be effective in preventing any pops or other unwanted noise depending on vehicle conditions and component (amplifier, radio, wiring, etc.) tolerances. The Radio Audio Mute Signal is necessary to be 100% effective in preventing these noises.
1. Inspect radio X1 pin 37. If empty, proceed to step 2. If pin 37 is populated with a female terminal, do not proceed with this repair procedure.
2. Relocate the wire that is in pin 18 to pin 37 using the steps below.
a. Remove pin 18 from the connector.
b. Replace the terminal with the correct terminal used in pin 37. See SI Component Connector End Views for complete Terminal Part Information.
c. Insert the new terminal into pin 37.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
