Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Position the oil drain pan under the oil pan drain plug.
- Remove the oil pan drain plug and allow the engine oil to drain.
- Clean and inspect the oil pan drain plug, replace if necessary.
- Clean and inspect the oil pan drain plug sealing surface on the oil pan, repair or replace the oil pan if necessary.
Important: To minimize oil spillage when removing the oil filter cartridge, allow sufficient time for oil drainage once the oil filter cartridge housing drain plug is removed.
- Remove the oil filter cartridge housing drain plug and allow the engine oil to drain into the drain pan.
- Remove the plastic cap from the oil filter cartridge housing.
- Remove the oil filter cartridge from the plastic cap.
- Clean and inspect the following, replace if necessary:
• | The oil filter cartridge plastic cap |
• | The oil filter cap O-ring seal |
Installation Procedure
Notice: Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the oil filter cartridge housing drain plug.
Tighten
Tighten the oil filter cartridge housing drain plug to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
Important: Ensure the tabs on the oil filter cartridge (1) lock firmly into the plastic cap.
An audible snap will be heard when the oil filter cartridge is completely seated.
- Install the NEW oil filter cartridge into the plastic cap.
- Lightly coat the O-ring seal (2) around the plastic cap with clean engine oil.
- Install the plastic cap to the oil filter cartridge housing.
Tighten
Tighten the oil filter cartridge plastic cap to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Install the oil pan drain plug.
Tighten
Tighten the oil pan drain plug to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Wipe the oil pan drain plug and surrounding area with a clean, dry cloth.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Fill the engine with the proper type and amount of engine oil. Refer to
Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations
and
Approximate Fluid Capacities
in Maintenance and Lubrication.
- Start the engine and inspect the oil pressure gage for appropriate pressure build up.
- Inspect the oil filter cartridge housing and the oil pan drain plug areas for leaks.
- Shut the engine off.
- Check the engine oil level and adjust if necessary.
