Removal Procedure
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Clean all dirt and foreign material from the brake hose and the brake
pipe fittings.
Important: Install a rubber cap or plug to the exposed brake pipe fitting end in order
to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
- Disconnect the brake pipe fitting (1) from the brake hose (3),
than cap or plug the brake pipe fitting end.
- Lift the retaining clip over the end of the brake hose.
- Using a flat-bladed tool, remove the brake hose retainer (2) from
the brake hose (3).
- Remove
the brake hose (1) from the brake hose bracket (2).
- Remove the brake hose to caliper bolt (4) from the brake caliper (1).
- Remove the brake hose (2) from the brake caliper.
- Place a shop towel on a hard surface.
- Tap the threaded end of the brake hose to caliper bolt (4) on the
shop towel to remove the gasket (3) from the bolt (4)
- Remove and discard the two copper brake hose gaskets (3). These
gaskets may be stuck to the brake caliper (1) and/or the brake hose end (2).
Important: Install a rubber cap or plug to the exposed brake pipe fitting end in order
to prevent brake fluid loss and/or contamination.
- Install a rubber plug into the brake hose to caliper bolt hole of the brake
caliper.
Installation Procedure
- Remove the rubber plug from the brake hose to caliper bolt hole of the
brake caliper.
Important: Install NEW copper brake hose gaskets.
- Assemble the brake hose (2), the NEW copper brake hose gaskets (3),
and the brake hose bolt (4) to the brake hose (2).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the brake hose (2) to caliper bolt (4) to the brake caliper (1).
Tighten
Tighten the brake hose to caliper bolt to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).
- Install
the brake hose (1) to the brake hose bracket (2).
Important: The tapered end of the hose retainer must be installed toward the pipe.
- Install the brake hose retainer (3) to the brake hose (3).
- Remove the rubber cap or plug from the exposed brake pipe fitting end.
- Install the brake pipe fitting (1) to the brake hose (3).
Tighten
Tighten the brake pipe fitting to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
- Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to
Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding
.
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
