Diagnostic Aids

Inspect the clutch pedal for a loose or worn clutch pedal spring. If the clutch pedal stays to the floor, inspect the master cylinder for improper fluid level or faulty parts. Inspect the hydraulic hoses or pipes for damage or leaks. Also inspect the clutch diaphragm springs for being broken.

Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. This step inspects the clutch system components and the operation of the clutch system.

  2. This step inspects the hydraulic lines for kinks, dents or other damage.

  3. This step inspects for the correct fluid level in the reservoir.

  4. This step inspects for a faulty release bearing.

  5. This step inspects for a worn or damaged diaphragm spring.

Inspect the master cylinder to ensure it has not fallen off the clutch pedal.

Replace the master cylinder and hydraulic line assembly. Refer to Clutch Master Cylinder Replacement .

Inspect the reservoir for fluid.

Is there fluid in the reservoir?

Fill the reservoir with fluid. Refer to Hydraulic Clutch Bleeding .

Inspect the master cylinder for being faulty.

Is the master cylinder faulty?

  1. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission - M35.
  2. Inspect the concentric slave cylinder for binding.

Is there binding on the concentric slave cylinder?

Replace the clutch release bearing. Refer to Clutch Concentric Actuator Cylinder Replacement .

Did you find and repair the condition?

Inspect the clutch diaphragm spring.

Are the diaphragm springs weak or broken?

  1. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission - M35.
  2. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
