Diagnostic Aids

If the clutch pedal is hard to push, inspect for proper lubrication to the clutch pedal assembly, and inspect the hydraulic lines for blockage or crimping. Also inspect for worn or damaged parts on the master cylinder, the wrong type of fluid, and the clutch disc for worn or damaged parts.

Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. This step inspects the clutch system components and the operation of the clutch system.

  2. This step inspects for blockage or crimping of the hydraulic line.

  3. This step inspects the clutch disc for being worn or damaged.

Inspect the clutch pedal to ensure that it is properly lubricated.

Does the clutch pedal need lubricating?

Is the pedal still hard to push?

Inspect the clutch hydraulic line for blockage or crimping.

Is the hydraulic line blocked or crimped?

Replace the clutch hydraulic line. Refer to Clutch Master Cylinder Replacement .

Did you find and repair the condition?

Inspect the clutch master cylinder for binding.

Is the clutch master cylinder binding?

Replace the master cylinder. Refer to Clutch Master Cylinder Replacement .

Did you find and repair the condition?

  1. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission - M35.
  2. Inspect the concentric slave cylinder for binding.

Is the concentric slave cylinder binding?

Go to Step 9

System OK

Replace the concentric slave cylinder. Refer to Clutch Concentric Actuator Cylinder Replacement .

Did you find and repair the condition?

System OK

Go to Step 10

Inspect the clutch disc for wear.

Is the clutch disc worn?

Go to Step 11

System OK

Replace the disc plate. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement .
