Diagnostic Aids

If you are unable to select gears, there may be faulty internal transmission components or a faulty clutch master cylinder.

Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. This step inspects the clutch system components and the operation of the clutch system.

  2. This step inspects for conditions in the transmission.

  3. This step inspects for a faulty concentric slave cylinder.

Did you review the clutch symptom operations and perform the necessary inspections?

Inspect the fluid level in the master cylinder.

Is the fluid at the proper level?

Go to Step 3

Go to Step 4

Diagnose the clutch. Refer to Diagnostic Starting Point - Clutch .

Does the clutch system operate properly?

System OK

Go to Step 4

Inspect the master cylinder.

Is the master cylinder worn or faulty?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 6

Replace the clutch master cylinder. Refer to Clutch Master Cylinder Replacement .

Does the clutch operate properly?

System OK

Go to Step 6

  1. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission- M35.
  2. Inspect the concentric slave cylinder.

Is the concentric slave cylinder worn or faulty?

Go to Step 7

  1. Replace the concentric slave cylinder. Refer to Clutch Concentric Actuator Cylinder Replacement .
  2. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?

System OK
