DEFINITION: Diagnosis of one of the following DIC messages:

    • DRIVER DOOR AJAR
    • PASSENGER DOOR AJAR
    • LEFT REAR DOOR AJAR
    • RIGHT REAR DOOR AJAR

1

Did you perform the Door Systems Diagnostic System Check?

Go to Step 2

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Door Systems

2

Verify that the Door Ajar Indicator Malfunction complaint is present.

Does the Door Ajar Indicator system operate as described in the system Description and Operation?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

3

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF
  3. Close all doors.
  4. With the scan tool, observe the parameter of each door ajar switch in each door modules Data Display Inputs list:
  5. • Driver Door Ajar Switch
    • Passenger Door Ajar Switch
    • Left Rear Door Ajar Switch
    • Right Rear Door Ajar Switch

Does the scan tool indicate that the Door Ajar Switch parameter is in the OFF state for all doors?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 5

4

  1. Open all of the vehicle doors.
  2. With the scan tool, observe the parameter of each door ajar switch in each door modules Data Display Inputs list:
  3. • Driver Door Ajar Switch
    • Passenger Door Ajar Switch
    • Left Rear Door Ajar Switch
    • Right Rear Door Ajar Switch

Does the scan tool indicate that the Door Ajar Switch is in the ON state for all doors?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 6

5

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the suspect door lock actuator.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With the scan tool, observe the appropriate Door Ajar Switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display Off?

Go to Step 11

Go to Step 9

6

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the suspect door lock actuator.
  3. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the door ajar switch signal circuit and the ground circuit of the door lock actuator harness connector.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF
  5. With the scan tool, observe the appropriate Door Ajar Switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display ON?

Go to Step 11

Go to Step 7

7

Test the ground circuit of the door lock actuator for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?
