Starter Shield Replacement LA3, LY9

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Remove the right catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side in Engine Exhaust.

  3. Object Number: 772392  Size: SH
  4. Remove the fasteners securing the starter heat shield to the starter.
  5. Remove the starter heat shield.

  6. Object Number: 772393  Size: SH
  7. Remove the nut securing the starter heat shield mounting bracket to the starter.
  8. Remove the starter heat shield mounting bracket.

  9. Object Number: 847390  Size: SH
  10. Remove the nut securing the starter heat shield mounting bracket to the engine block.
  11. Remove the starter heat shield mounting bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 847390  Size: SH
  1. Install the starter heat shield mounting bracket to the stud located at the engine block.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the nut securing the starter heat shield mounting bracket to the engine block.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the starter heat shield mounting bracket nut to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  5. Install the starter heat shield mounting bracket to the stud located at the rear of the starter motor.
  6. Install the nut securing the starter heat shield mounting bracket to the starter.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the starter heat shield mounting bracket nut to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  8. Position the starter heat shield to the starter motor and brackets.
  9. Install the fasteners securing the starter heat shield to the starter motor and brackets.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the starter heat shield fasteners to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  11. Install the right catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side in Engine Exhaust.
  12. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
